Dress and Grooming Tips
Guys
- Shaving: Make sure you have a fresh shave. A 5'oclock shadow cannot be removed, even with retouching.
- Hair: If you plan to have a haircut, try to schedule it at least a week prior to your portrait session. This is especially important in the summer when a fresh cut may reveal untanned skin. Please bring your own brush or comb.
- Bring Your Smile: We won't force you to do anything you do not want to do. Generally, we do about 50% smiles and 50% serious expressions of guys unless otherwise requested.
- Wardrode: Make sure the clothes you bring are clean and pressed. Wrinkles, rips and stains will show. Be sure your clothes fit. Oversized clothes are not as flattering in photographs as they might be in person. Anything too tight may make you feel uncomfortable. Long sleeves and long pants are best. Please bring a button down shirt and tie if you want the cap and gown pose. Bring all the accessories you will need. The right belt, hat, jewelry and shoes really make the outfit complete. Discuss your clothing selections with your parents ahead of time and make sure you agree!
Outdoor sessions: Casual clothing is best. Images taken in the grass are popular, so be sure to wear something you can "get on the ground" in. Look for solid colors or subtle prints. Do not forget props such as your car or motorcycle, pets, hobby or sports equipment, and/or musical instruments.
- Attitude: A lot of guys say they have more fun at their session than they expected. It is a one-time deal, so leave your worries at home. Be prepared to enjoy the experience, and do not hesitate to call us at 410-526-9400 if you have any questions.
Girls
- Hair: If you plan to have a haircut, schedule it about three weeks prior to your session. This will give you time to lose that "just cut" look. If you color your hair, do not forget that roots do show. You may want to make arrangements to have your hair colored just before you are photographed. Please bring your own brush or comb and hair spray with you.
- Skin: Be sure to bring translucent powder with you. It is a clear powder that will reduce oil on your skin so that you will not look shiny. Too much sun darkens skin unnaturally, dries hair, shows bags under the eyes, and makes skin appear shiny. Tan lines and sunburn will show, especially in your yearbook photo. Try to avoid getting them, but be sure to bring body make-up to cover them if you cannot avoid it.
- Make-up: Take the time to do a great make-up application or get it professionally done. You will look washed out under our lights if you wear no make-up. We also ask that you bring your own make-up for touch-ups: a translucent powder to reduce shine, blush, eye shadow, lipstick and mascara.
- Hands: Make sure your nails and hands look good. Give yourself a good manicure, or consider a professional one. At the very least, please remove old, chipped polish. Remember, if you paint your nails, do your toes too, for barefoot shots. Apply lotion to your hands before your photo session.
- Wardrode: Be sure your wardrobe is clean and pressed. You can bring up to three outfits of your own. Plan your outfits from head to toe, and do not forget accessories. The right jewelry, hats, belts, and shoes really make the outfit complete! Oversized clothes are not flattering in photos as they might be in person. Anything too tight might confine you and make you look uncomfortable.
Please wear modest clothing - no bathing suits, halter tops, low cut tops or stomachs showing. Solid tones or small prints are best for photographing. Make sure you and your parents agree on your clothing before you come. Be sure to bring props such as your pet, car, sports or hobby equipment, and/or musical instruments. You may also have photos taken with friends.
- Attitude: Relax. You're going to have fun. It is a one-time deal, so leave your worries at home. Be prepared to really enjoy the experience, and do not hesitate to call us at 410-526-9400 if you have any questions.
